2012 Jubilee Year
As many members will already know the AJS & Matchless club was formed after a meeting
at the Ace Cafe in January 1952 making 2012 the clubs Jubilee year. Given that the club started
at the Ace we thought it would be good to commemorate the starting of the club by re-visiting
the Ace in January 2012 with an informal meeting and take along bikes manufactured in
1952 along with any other suitable memorabilia of the era.
Also as a celebration of the club’s 60 years, some club members are taking on the challenge of
a John O'Groats to Lands End run in the springtime on bikes of the marque and both 500cc twins,
one each AJS & Matchless, were at the Ace in January that will be used
on the run, one of which may become the 2012 raffle bike.
While we're sure that our various rallies
and shows throughout the year will also take on a Jubilee theme we have arranged, again with
the Ace, to have an AJS & Matchless ride–in day on Sunday 24th June when members can meet
up and enjoy the atmosphere of the famous Ace cafe.
Jan 29th at the Ace cafe saw the club promoting the ‘Wrong Way Down’ run, both bikes,
the President and Chairman were there and promoted the two charities that will
be supported during the run. The nominated charities are Brain Tumour Research and
Southampton Sight (a local charity for the blind).
