Heart of England

Probably the friendliest group of chaps you could hope to meet!

Hello and welcome to you from Heart of England country. We are a section of the AJS and Matchless owners club covering much of Central England. You can read all about AJS&MOC on the main site and see stacks of photos of Plumstead machinery. However, although most of us have AMC machines we share a love of any old or cranky machinery regardless of origin! First and foremost we just like socialising with like minded people. So, if you like noisy, smelly, leaky old crankatrons (or are one yourself) you will fit right in!

The section has some very talented people in it. For instance, Bryan took this wreck;

And turned it into this stunning Viper;

And he’s not resting on his laurels. Next on his agenda is this Venom;

Amongst our members we have a huge variety of classic bikes including; Rudge, Ariel, Triumph, BSA, Harley Davidson, Velocette, Vincent, Hildebrand and Wolfmüller, Norton, BMW, and lots of modern ones too.

Of course, if you do have an AJS or Matchless, we have loads of knowledgeable rivet counters to tell you exactly what is wrong with it.

Only joking!

We do have some beautiful concours machines

But most of our bikes are owned to be ridden so comprise every standard from concours to reliable wreck. One owner’s Ajay has Kawasaki electrics and switchgear, Ford oil filter, indicators, BMC mini brakes, blue led light decor, forks that look as if they are from a Bonneville and, alarmingly, a black cat roped to it. We are not fussy who we are seen with!

We just like to have a good time!

We meet at The White Horse in Husborne Crawley (near Milton Keynes) on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays in the month, usually from about 8.00pm. It’s a cosy little pub in beautiful countryside, just two miles away you can bump into herds of deer roaming in Woburn Abbey (we usually try to avoid bumping into them). We are a friendly bunch and very informal. There is never a dull moment as through the year we have a full calendar of events. Recent amusements have been a TT Racing Board game evening, a quiz of the marque and a run to Mallory Park for classic motorcycle racing. If you run a bike of any make or type you will find a wealth of knowledge amongst our ranks to help with those inevitable British bike problems. If you don’t have a bike but have an enthusiasm for AMC and similar classics come along anyway and meet us. Who knows, this time next year………………………….
