Does anyone know of a firm still producing Barbour/Belstaff style traditional Wax Cotton Trousers? There never seems to be anything bigger than 34" waist on E**y and I can't seem to find any for sale new anywhere?

I did mean to present the link using the posh way but I pressed the wrong button and you got it the old way and it works. I found it with a Google search among the pictures. What has absolutely amazed me is the prices of these things now particularly the jackets its not surprising you don't find them around. Having said that I browsed around the site and notice they also sell Barbour jackets but no trousers, these are much less than the Belstaff jackets.

Just been browsing around this site some more and whilst obviously aimed at the classic car market there is a wealth of stuff that suits bikes as well.

Thanks for the Holden link Eric, that's a possibility.

It seems that the Barbour/Belstaff motorcycle jackets etc. have become the preserve of the celebrity and TV presenter, and the silly prices reflect this, along with the price of the bikes and spares. Riding a classic or vintage motorcycle is becoming and expensive hobby, especially if you want the period 'bits & pieces' to go with it.

A sad state of affairs for us enthusiasts.

Try Hitchcocks Motorcycles, they have a website- www.hitchcocksmotorcycles.com - look under accessories, then personal accessories, then you'll see clothing. I think the stuff is made in Australia, Bruce. Can't think why no-one from down there has mentioned them before-'Sunstuff' Maybe cos it never rains so they can't test them? I've never tried this make, but it does look the part and I have found Hitchcocks good for mail order of spares etc.

When I was looking for a Barbour International jacket I had an interesting conversation with a lady at Barbour themselves, she was totally unaware that the International jacket was (originally) a motorcycle jacket. 'We don't do motorcycle clothing" she told me and when I mentioned the long tradition of Barbour and motorcycle clothing she said" Are you sure it's Barbour items you want?"

How times change indeed!

When I re-assembled the Matchless after the 10 year or so break, I had my Belstaff jacket but couldn't find the trousers anywhere.

I bought some modern lewis leathers legs, which have worked fine.

I've now found the old legs, but they have some mildew. I read that gentle wiping with a Milton solution (sterilises babies bottles) and a good bake in hot sun would do the trick.

Anybody got any comments?

Not to be flash but 34 would be too large for me, but Im now only 5 foot 9 - I've shrunk an inch over the last 30 years.

Amazing what you discover when it's time to put the ol' shorts on again.

Not had a drop o' rain for at least 6 weeks. I can be certain of that as my neighbour had his large front and back lawns turfed June 9th and has had to water every evening.
Haven't worn longs since end May.

So, DWS, I must ask you-does RAF Bruggen mean anything to you? Only there was a Dave Stapleton there once, too?
